Falling for Budapest: Chasing Golden Leaves
Isn’t autumn the season of little miracles? The sound of crunchy leaves underfoot, the crisp breeze brushing against your face, and the comfort of a cozy playlist in your ears. For me, it’s the most beautiful time of year. And here in Budapest, fall turns the city into a golden wonderland. Let me take you through some of my favorite spots to experience the magic of autumn, which are perfect for relaxing, recharging, or simply escaping midterm stress!
Károlyi kert

Just around the corner from our university’s Quaestura, Károlyi Kert feels like a hidden retreat in the middle of the city. The park is filled with people reading, listening to music, or watching children play in the playground. The benches here are perfect for sitting back and admiring the warm colors of the season. It’s small but cozy, and it’s ideal for a quick study break.
Margaret Island

Budapest’s “magical island” in the Danube is a classic, but it becomes even more enchanting in autumn. You can cycle around, take a long peaceful walk, or have a picnic with friends. The golden light filtering through the trees makes the island feel like it’s straight out of a painting.
Városliget/City Park

If you’re looking for another large green space, Városliget is the place to be. The combination of historic architecture and wide stretches of trees covered in autumn colors makes it a must-visit. For a unique perspective, try the BalloonFly and enjoy a breathtaking view of the city from above.
Nyugati station

It may surprise you, but Nyugati station has some of the most stunning autumn scenery in the city. The trees surrounding the station stay golden for a long time, creating a view you won’t forget. I was stunned when I stopped to take a photo there. It was one of those unexpected moments when beauty sneaks up on you in the middle of an ordinary commute!
Wandering the streets

Of course, you don’t always need a destination. Sometimes the best autumn experience is simply wandering the streets of Budapest. The boulevards lined with golden leaves make even an ordinary walk feel extraordinary.
Autumn here has taught me to slow down and appreciate the beauty in small things – a walk, a park bench, or a view outside the metro. If you ever feel overwhelmed by assignments or midterms, step outside and let Budapest in the fall remind you how magical life can be.
