Course description

The aim of the course is to

  • widen the students’ knowledge on health system financing;
  • provide the theoretical basis for analysing provider-payment methods; and
  • discuss the international and Hungarian experiences with provider-payment methods.

The course covers the following topics:

  1. Purchasing of health services (provider-payment methods): theoretical basis.
  2. Purchasing of health services (provider-payment methods): international experiences
  3. Key issues of resource generation in the Hungarian health system
  4. Provider-payment methods in the Hungarian health system
  5. Theoretical principles and international experiences of defining the health benefit basket
  6. Voluntary health insurance
  7. Basic issues in health expenditure analysis
