My Erasmus+ Journey as an International Student in Hungary: Mountains and Cultures in Poland
As an international student in Hungary with a residence permit, I jumped at the chance to join my first fully funded Erasmus+ youth exchange. Among many opportunities, this one in Poland stood out nestled in the majestic Tatra Mountains, with perfect timing and crisp autumn weather that promised fresh air and stunning views. What followed was a transformative week blending deep discussions on global peace with pure joy and connection, open to anyone aged 18-28 holding a Hungarian permit, whether at ELTE or elsewhere.
Workshops That Sparked Real Change
Days revolved around dynamic workshops tackling nuclear disarmament, human rights, and a peaceful Europe. We started with eye-opening sessions on nuclear weapons facts, NATO and UN roles, and how they're built, then moved to banning efforts like ICAN and challenges of nuclear power. Afternoons sharpened our skills through communication training, media's societal impact, EU energy policies, and an intense Oxford-style debate. Evenings brought reflections, quizzes, and prep for a public "happening" event, all led by our skilled UK facilitator. These hands-on activities in mixed international teams turned complex issues into actionable insights and lifelong critical thinking tools.
Cultural Nights and Mountain Magic
Each country shone on cultural nights, filling the air with dances, homemade dishes, folk songs, and heartfelt stories that erased borders - think lively group performances and feasts that lasted till late. Hiking to Morskie Oko, a crystal-clear glacial lake amid towering peaks, became the trip's pinnacle; the trail challenged us physically while rewarding us crisp breezes and panoramic vistas - perfect for that mountain escape I craved. Back at our cozy mountain hotel with shared rooms, buffet meals, endless snacks, and a welcoming pool and jacuzzi, we bonded over horror movie nights screams mixing with laughter in the dim glow, creating bonds that felt instant and enduring.

Friendships and Lessons for Future Adventurers
This experience proved how quickly diverse backgrounds weave into something unbreakable. From team-building games to late-night chats by the fire, I left with friends across Europe and a renewed drive for peace activism. Upcoming students in Hungary, grab these chances they deliver integration, workshops, fun, and off-the-beaten-path discoveries that reshape your worldview, all while building a network ready to support your next steps.
