„We discussed hot topics relevant for all the world events, such as migration crisis, gender issues and nation state issues. I enjoyed every single class, subject, and knowledge that professors shared with the students."

Why ELTE?

ELTE is one of the most prestigious universities in Europe. Since its foundation in 1635, it has been an institution with high reputation. So many years educating generations and transforming the way in which knowledge is constructed, that’s why I chose this institution. One of the greatest minds of sciences and humanities studied here at ELTE. For me it was an honor to be accepted.

What did you like most about being a student at ELTE?

ELTE, challenged me in every possible way, it combined theory, practices and field trips. Everything we studied in theory one week turned into action the week after. The immediate application of the theory was one of the most valuable experiences. Empirical research activities, discrimination testing outside of the school, visits and interviews to different minorities and involvement with NGOs, creating my own statistical database (and many more!) were extraordinary experience.

The academic level of the classes was high, the readings were very interesting and full of current issues, the relationship between the relevance of the classes and what was happening in the world was extraordinary. We discussed hot topics relevant for all the world events, such as migration crisis, gender issues and nation state issues. I enjoyed every single class, subject, and knowledge that professors shared with the students.

What were the challenges in your study program?

To be able to contrast theory and practice for my research was undoubtedly my biggest challenge. Since the beginning of the program, we, students are being prepared to become researchers. It was very challenging to learn how to analyze quantitative and qualitative data and interpret the results coherently with the related theories and discuss the results in a coherent and scientific way, too.

How do you think your degree has helped you in your life and career?

The Ethnic and Minority Policy MA, first, made me a better person, a better professional and I feel I have become a citizen of the world. The actual subjects we studied in the program are about the challenges of the modern world globalization, gender, nationalism. The understanding and the daily practice of the theories and examples have prepared me to confront different situations in my career. The subjects have prepared us for working the field of human development at enterprises, working as a consultant in international environments, etc. This program opened my eyes for a new way to approach professional and personal issues.

Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?

Absolutely!!! Everybody who wants to study something that is valuable for the world, their countries and their life learning process must get involved with ELTE. The professors are active researchers and experts in different subjects. Studying at ELTE allows you to share the knowledge with specialists who are always willing to share their experiences and knowledge.

One more advice! Do not be surprised if once you have a lecturer that works for the World Bank as an advisor, or someone you just found in the latest news for the United Nations or one whose book or article you have just read.
