Using Digital Tools in Reducing Mathematical Anxiety
The research project "The Possible Benefits of Using Digital Tools in Reducing Mathematical Anxiety" was implemented at Eötvös Loránd University.

Identifying a Social Problem:

The growing shortage of young people choosing technical and scientific fields as career paths is becoming increasingly significant in both vocational training and higher education. We need to consider the economic and social consequences if this trend does not improve. Reducing mathematical anxiety contributes to preventing children from turning away from mathematics and other fields of study that require a higher level of proficiency, which is essential for professions or researchers. Therefore, the significance of this research and its outcomes extends beyond the present, as the implementation of the program in the future can benefit society not only directly through the participants but also indirectly.

Results of the Development/Research

The research conducted within the project confirmed the anxiety-reducing effects of incorporating digital tools, leading to the development of an NAT-compliant educational program that aims to reverse negative trends and can be integrated into public education.

Introduction of the Developed Tool

The examination of anxiety revealed that students who experience anxiety towards mathematics exhibited alleviated or diminished cognitive symptoms when using digital tools. Therefore, the impact of digital tools on performance and affective factors in mathematics education was investigated within the sub-project. An abstract of the research and its results can be found in Annex 1 of the scientific publication "Pedagógusképzés" (forthcoming).
