ASEAN Day organized by Stipendium Hungaricum students at the Doctoral School of Education
Students at the Doctoral School of Education organized ASEAN Day at the end of April where the ASEAN community and member countries were introduced.

It has been a tradition that students at the Doctoral School of Education organize a cultural exchange workshop each year. The first edition focused on Kazakhstan in 2018, followed by the workshops on Myanmar in May 2019 and on Africa in December 2019. These events widen students’, professors’ and other participants’ understanding and knowledge concerning education systems and cultural practices of these regions.

ASEAN day, the latest edition of the series, focusing on the south-east Asian countries and their intergovernmental organization took place online at the end of April. Most of the hosts of the event were Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holder master's and doctoral students from the Faculty of Education and Psychology, ELTE, two hosts were from the University of Miskolc and one from the University of Mysore, India:

Before the event, attendees received their free ticket to enter the ASEAN Museum and then the journey started. After the opening remarks by Gábor Halász, professor at the Faculty of Education and Psychology, leader of the Teacher education and higher education studies (EDiTE) program, and initiator of this event, hosts guided attendees through the ASEAN Museum on a virtual tour and introduced the ASEAN community through five museum halls: ASEAN overview, ASEAN education, ASEAN culture, outsiders' perspective of the ASEAN community, and the interview of ASEAN students. In the session on education, an external speaker, Hyunjeong Lee, programme officer from UNESCO Bangkok gave a brief presentation on increasing access to basic education for out-of-school children and adolescents.

During this well designed, informative and truly entertaining event (hosts even organized quizzes after each session), attendees could learn about ASEAN countries from various perspectives. For anyone who missed this event but wants to know more about ASEAN region, parts of the event are available on the blog of this event series. Previous editions are also published on the blog.
