Digital transformation and real-time solutions
The annual report of the project entitled ‘Application Domain Specific Highly Reliable IT Solutions’ was held at the ELTE Faculty of Informatics, which concluded the first phase of this Thematic Excellence Programme. The project offers solutions in areas that are the most exposed to the challenges of digital transformation reflecting current industry needs.

The aim of the programme supported by the NRDI Fund is to foster professional and scientific excellence, to increase the openness of research activities, as well as to facilitate cooperation in the RDI sector.

The success of the digitalization of social and economic processes depends on whether we are able to integrate highly reliable, security-critical, and strictly real-time, distributed IT solutions into software-based services and products. The complexity of the software systems behind the innovative solutions has increased dramatically due to the expansion of functionality, the emergence of sustainability considerations (such as energy consumption), and the fact that the implementation environment became heterogeneous and spatially distributed.

Our society is increasingly dependent on the problem-free functioning of ubiquitous IT solutions.

System failures are likely to have an impact on our daily lives, pose a risk to our health, present data protection and security problems, may cause enormous economic loss, and in the case of security-critical systems they might even endanger people’s lives.

Reflecting current industry needs, the project led by the ELTE Faculty of Informatics offers solutions in those areas that are the most exposed to the challenges of digital transformation (healthcare, cyber security, digital finance, agro-informatics, autonomous vehicles, communication networks, and telecommunications), which increases the competitiveness of the industrial and academic sides, alike. The results are based on high-standard research carried out by university scientific workshops in the fields of informatics, computer science, and mathematics, which renders the collaboration feasible in the long run. The ultimate outcome of the project is expected to be the consolidation and expansion of strategic industrial cooperation.

Research groups working within the frames of the project:

• Agro-informatics

• Autonomous systems

• Digital financial and healthcare services

• Mathematics and optimization

• Artificial intelligence

• Software industry and telecommunications networks

The project is implemented under the leadership of the ELTE Faculty of Informatics, in cooperation with the Faculty of Science. A detailed description of the research is available on the project website. Programmes and presentations can be accessed at this link.
