Dave Cowan is the Journal of Law and Society Professor of Socio-Legal Studies, at Cardiff University, where he is also interim Head of School.

His research is predominantly around housing and homelessness, and through which he engages with social theory. He is widely published in socio-legal book and journal collections, and is series editor of the Palgrave Socio-Legal Series as well as having sat on the editorial boards of leading socio-legal journals. His most recent work has focused on a variety of topics including the regulation of renting, effects of financialisaton, and legal consciousness. In 2021, Dave was awarded the UK Socio-Legal Studies Association’s prize for contributions to the socio-legal community.
