ELTE is the most popular higher education institution among Erasmus students

29 January 2016

More than one million students took part in 18,000 EU-funded projects in the first year of the Erasmus + programme. Among the Hungarian higher education institutions, ELTE hosted the highest number of Erasmus students and sent the second highest number of Erasmus students for study or traineeship abroad in the academic Year 2013/2014.

According to the figures in the first year report published by the European Commission, the number of beneficiaries and the range of opportunities increased in the renewed Erasmus+ programme. The goal for the period of 2014-2020 is to grant more than two million students Erasmus scholarships, including 450,000 internships. As a result, the number of students studying or doing their traineeship abroad would double compared to the last 25 years.

In 2013/2014, a record number of 272,497 students including more than 60,000 interns, and 57,488 teachers took part in the Erasmus student and staff mobility programme for higher education across Europe. Almost 12 % of all Erasmus students studying in Hungary, 573 students studied at ELTE in 2013/2014. With these figures, ELTE is the first receiving institution among the Hungarian higher education institutions and holds the 60th place among the European higher education institutions, with this improving the 79th place from the previous year 2012/2013.

In 2013/2014, 424 ELTE students took part in the Erasmus mobility programme for study or traineeship. As a result, ELTE holds the second place in Hungary and ELTE is the 143th on the list of top 500 higher education institutions sending Erasmus students in Europe.

The application period of the Erasmus mobility programme for study or traineeship for the academic year 2016/2017 is going to open at ELTE in February. ELTE students can get more information about the details of the application process on the university’s website and on the one-week event Erasmus7 organized in February.
