ELTE Psychologists among the Best Researchers in the World
Research.com, compiling various rankings in higher education, has been publishing its lists of the world’s top scientists since 2014. The platform also presents the international list of the best scientists by discipline, on the basis of the ranking of journals comprising their publications.
Position in the ranking depends on the scientist’s D-index, which only takes into account publications and citation data for the examined discipline. The top lists were made using the data of 166,880 researchers found in several bibliometric databases, and within that, more than 15,018 profiles in the field of psychology were assessed.
The 18 Hungarian scientists ranked in the field of psychology include three professors from the ELTE Faculty of Education and Psychology. They are the only scholars in the ranking affiliated with the psychology institutes of Hungarian universities.
Zsolt Demetrovics is a full professor at the ELTE Institute of Psychology, head of the Centre of Excellence in Responsible Gaming at the University of Gibraltar, and a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He has outstanding achievements in basic psychological research on addictions and applied research combined with social sciences. A characteristic feature of his work is including behavioural addictions into the scope of research, which are normally overlooked in addictionology. In 2022, he was ranked among the most cited scientists in the world based on the compilation of Highly Cited Researchers.
Attila Szabó is a full professor at the Institute of Health Promotion and Sports Sciences, Faculty of Education and Psychology, ELTE, and holds the title of the Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He completed his studies at the University of Montreal and Nottingham Trent University, among other institutions. He is primarily engaged in behavioural addictions and the impact of sports on mental health. His scientific work focusing on the positive and negative psychological aspects of physical exercise has earned international recognition.
Róbert Urbán is a full professor at the Institute of Psychology, Faculty of Education and Psychology, ELTE, and holds the title of the Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
