The ELTE Vis Moot Court team was a runner-up in the VIII Brno Pre-Moot, a preparatory arbitration competition in international commercial law, held on 26 February 2022.

The Brno Pre-Moot is a preparatory competition for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court. Vis Moot is the largest and most prestigious arbitration competition in international commercial law, focused on a complex legal case in which numerous procedural and substantive issues are raised every year. This year’s case also covered several particularly exciting topics: selecting the law applicable to the arbitration agreement, the applicability of the Vienna Sales Convention to the arbitration agreement, concluding the contract of sale, and regulating the general terms and conditions.

The members of the ELTE Vis Moot team were Andor Valér Cserép, András Gaál, Pauline Hernandez, and Dániel Tóth. The team had to argue on both the plaintiff’s and defendant’s sides several times during the rounds of the competition. According to the overall results, the ELTE Vis Moot team won second place at the level of teams, and Valor Cserép received the Third Best Oralist Award. The winning team came from the Maharashtra National Law University, India, and the third place went to students from the University of Maribor, Slovenia. The first two positions in the competition of oralists were gained by two students from Maharashtra National Law University, Apeksha Chauhan and Rahul Pawar. Congratulations on their results!

The team was coached for the competition by István Erdős. In case of any questions about the Vis Moot programme, please contact István Erdős, assistant professor (erdosistvan@ajk.elte.hu), who is the head of the Vis Moot programme at ELTE.
