ELTE, founded by Péter Pázmány, Archbishop of Esztergom in 1635, celebrates the foundation of the university on Pázmány Day each year.


Traditionally, on the Ceremonial Assembly, during the Pázmány Lecture, a professor of ELTE with outstanding results introduces his/her own research area. This year Prof. Dr. István Csabai, will deliver the speech on "Galaxies, genes, graphs: Data-intensive approach to science" who is a professor at the Physical Institute of Physics of Complex Systems Department at the Faculty of Sciences. 

After the Pázmány Lecture, the title “doctor et professor honoris causa” will be conferred on internationally renowned professors. This year Prof. Dr. István Klinghammer, Professor Emeritus of Eötvös Loránd University; Prof. Dr. Anastasios Ioannis Métaxas, Professor Emeritus of Athens University; Prof. Dr. Thomas Rauscher, Professor of the University of Leipzig and Prof. Dr. Volker Lipp, Professor of the University of Göttingen will be awarded. 

On the occasion of the Hungarian Sports Day, „BEAC – The firsts”, sports history exhibition of the Budapest University Athletic Club will be opened at 3 p.m. followed by  the greetings of Olympians of ELTE and BEAC who participating the Olympics in Rio.

To celebrate the awarded professors, the ELTE “Eötvös” University Orchestra will give a concert at 7 p.m. followed by the performance of the folk dance group of ELTE.
