Purnima Chakravarty defended her Ph.D. thesis with success at the largest and most demanding Doctoral School of Physics in Hungary and graduated summa cum laude. Purnima is the first doctoral student to achieve such a great distinction at the Doctoral School of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) under the supervision of the Savaria Institute of Technology.

Purnima Chakravarty, from India, started her Ph.D. studies within the framework of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme in 2019. She carried out her doctoral research supervised by Prof. Dr. Jurij Sidor, D.Sc., at the ELTE Doctoral School of Physics. She completed her doctoral studies in the summer of 2023 and submitted her Ph.D. thesis to the Doctoral School. The defence was scheduled for 22 December. Over four years, she submitted several scientific papers to high-ranking international journals for publication. She presented her research results at domestic and international conferences in Romania, Croatia, and Austria.

In addition to her studies, Purnima was actively involved in the life of the Savaria Institute of Technology. She assisted her supervisor in teaching the B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses in English during the three years she spent at the institute. Since September, she has been working as a research associate at the institute and has been engaged in the implementation of the research project entitled “Protection of security-critical national services and industrial infrastructures with cybersecurity, technological, and regulatory tools”. Additionally, she made many friends both inside and outside the institute due to her extremely positive attitude in the face of challenges. “Purnima is the most optimistic Ph.D. student I have ever met. She never gives up, even in the most difficult situations,” said her supervisor, Prof. Dr. Jurij Sidor, D.Sc., at the defence.

This is also a considerable achievement for the Savaria Institute of Technology, as the first young researcher from abroad supervised by the instructors of the Institute not only defended her work successfully but was also able to implement the experience she gained during her doctoral studies in the Thematic Excellence Programme.

The Savaria Institute of Technology wishes Purnima a lot of success in her future career.
