QS Ranking: ELTE takes the lead in Hungary
The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 2025 university ranking was announced on 4 June 2024, examining 5,663 higher education institutions from 106 countries, nearly twice as many as the previous year. Finally, 1,503 institutions made it to the 21st QS WUR list, including 11 from Hungary.
ELTE, improving its position by about 140 places from last year, ranked 564th, ahead of the University of Szeged at 570th and the University of Debrecen at 574th. All three Hungarian universities improved their positions from last year and were grouped in the 564-574 ranking range. However, after being in third place in previous years, ELTE is now the leading higher education institution in Hungary.
The ranking editors evaluate universities based on several criteria, including academic reputation, indicators measuring the employability of graduates, and sustainability, where ELTE ranks first in Hungary. Additionally, ELTE is among the top three in Hungary in terms of employer satisfaction and international research collaborations.
Besides the above, other Hungarian universities in the ranking include the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (721–730), the University of Pécs (771–780), Corvinus (1001–1200), MATE (1001–1200), Széchenyi István University (1001–1200), the University of Miskolc (1201–1400), the University of Pannonia (1201–1400), and Óbuda University (1201–1400).
