Summary of Orientation Week 2019/20 Spring

Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) welcomed international students in the framework of the Orientation Week that has become a tradition by now. Students received information covering enrollment, administration and the services and communities of the university. They were also informed about other programs connected to university life, for example possibilities to do sports offered by BEAC or the work of ESN ELTE. There was a campus tour and several other programs they organized to help international students.

The Welcome Ceremony took place in the Aula Magna, 6th February 2020, where Prof. Dr. László Borhy, Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Imre Hamar, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and Dr. Ferenc Takó, Head of the International Strategy Office, welcomed the new international students. An account of experiences followed, presented by two scholarship holders, Natalia Woźniak and Yanof Nasr. They summarized their experiences and gave some useful advice to international students. After that Stojan Matic, vice president of the Erasmus Student Network at ELTE, announced the program of ESN. Last, but not least, Peterjon Cresswell, journalist of WeLoveBudapest.com, described some possibilities for those interested in culture and sightseeing. To conclude the Ceremony, the folk dance group of ELTE performed at the ceremony as well. Right after the ceremony the Information Market started, where students could ask not only representatives of the Organizations and Faculties of ELTE but also people representing for example WeLoveBudapest.com and the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing directly. They could also meet the heads of the Student residence halls and volunteer for ELTE EKSZ (ELTE Students for an Environmentally Conscious Approach) and for SHÜTI (Office for Special Student’s Affairs).

The Orientation Week offered international students numerous programs. The one discussing the nature and difficulties of international life was particularly popular. Students could also register for Hungarian language courses starting soon.

Students who were unable to join the event, could follow the ceremony for the first time online. The video is available on this link.

Photos made during the ceremony can be also found on the Eötvös Loránd University International Facebook page.
