The Institute of Mathematics became an “MTA Excellent Research Site”
In recognition of their outstanding scientific work, 14 Hungarian research centers received the MTA designation this year, including the ELTE Institute of Mathematics. The certificates were presented in a formal ceremony at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ headquarters on Széchenyi Square to representatives of the designated research sites.
“The excellence so often invoked in science can truly flourish if we provide institutional frameworks that enable continuous, high-level research work. Without conditions appropriate to the specific nature of research and a quality assurance system that continuously monitors them, high-level performance is inconceivable,” said Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), at the award ceremony. “By establishing the ‘MTA Excellent Research Site’ designation, the Academy sought to provide worthy recognition to the most outstanding Hungarian research sites, a realistic perspective to those on the rise, an objective overview to interested domestic and foreign decision-makers, and guidance to a society invested in the excellence of Hungarian science.”
The program for assessing and awarding this title was launched in 2021. The main criteria for granting it are the research site’s performance in research, publication, and innovation, as well as the effectiveness of its operation and its training of the next generation of scientists.
