“I find the environment very international and open to each and every student.”

Why ELTE?

I am very proud to say that I am a student at Eötvös Loránd University. I chose to study at ELTE because the university has been preserving its respectable reputation since 1635 and it is the oldest and greatest university in Hungary. I wonder, who wouldn’t like to study at one of the highly ranked prestigious universities situating at the heart of Europe?! It has a research-based mission that is directly relevant to my field of study, Applied Linguistics. As a student at the Faculty of Humanities, I find the education of the best quality at this university. Especially, the university offers a wide range of subjects for the students with attention-grabbing structure and aims that play an important role to enhance your professional competence. The professors have a broad worldview and are very professional through their teaching methods.

What do you like most about being a student at ELTE?

I find the environment very international and open to each and every student. This university is a great opportunity for taking courses in the English language for all degrees and paves the way for achieving your professional goals. Moreover, each faculty has its own library with a wide range of books and offices for International Student Services, as well. In this office, the staff is really kind and ready to respond your questions. Besides, if you want to enjoy a magnificent view and tranquil spots surrounded with amazing books, you should come to see the Central Library which is considered as the first and oldest Public Library in Hungary.

What are the challenges in your study program?

At the beginning, it was a bit challenging for me. It was only because I didn’t have enough information about the education system and the whole structure of the subjects at university. I gradually got accustomed to the system and the professors’ interesting teaching methods ending up overcoming difficulties and keep going. If you choose ELTE as your university, you should consider that a great deal of studies, research, different and interesting tasks and assignments with deadlines are waiting for you to deal with them. But don’t worry, the teachers know how to make them easy to comprehend. The only thing you do to put effort and being determined in your aim. If you are a prospective student, then your target university must be ELTE.

How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?

I chose Applied Linguistics as my specialization. The reason for that is that I really enjoy analyzing languages, especially English language. It paves the way for many job opportunities including English teacher, Editor, Translator, Speech and Language therapist, Information Officer and other relevant fields. In this regard, I mainly focus on Multimodal Discourse Analysis which takes one of the major places in different work domains through the communication. My mission in the career path is to become a professional communicator to analyze the linguistic part of the communication in a business environment. The research I conduct, all the assignments I do and study materials I read are the main parts of my life. They come together to make me well-prepared to respond to any requirements of the dynamic and continuously evolving technological and industrial world of life.

Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?

I would strongly recommend to the future students to be active as much as possible and be able to keep balance between studying and other activities during the academic period because improvement is possible through actively participating, asking questions and integrating into the class atmosphere. Meanwhile, do not forget to join extra-curricular activities which are very diverse and amazing either inside or outside the university. For example, the university offers Sports Festivals which I really find interesting. Besides, it is better to take the language course to learn Hungarian as soon as possible and thus it will make your life easier through the integration into the Hungarian culture and community. Overall, make your student life productive and enjoy your studies as well as breathtaking sightseeing in Hungary.
