Important changes in visa procedure

Dear Students!

Please be informed that under the Act on the General Rules for the Entry and Right of Residence of Third-Country Nationals, unless otherwise specified by provision, no applications for a residence permit or for an interim/a national/an EU residence card (former interim/national/EC permanent residence permits) may be submitted between 1st January 2024 and 29th February 2024. This decision was not made by ELTE and it has no influence on it. We are working on solutions to ensure a calm and timely start of the spring semester for every international student. Thank you for your understanding!

- No application can be submitted between January 1 and February 29, the whole application procedure is suspended. Those who submitted their application by December 31, but a decision has not yet been made, will only have their application evaluated after February 29.

- The validity period of residence permits expiring between January 1 and February 29 is automatically extended until April 30, but no official certificate or temporary permit will be issued about it, therefore students with expired but still valid permits are not recommended to leave Hungary during this period, as they won’t be able to travel back.

- Students who traveled home during the winter break must return to Hungary before the expiration date on their residence permit card, because later they will not be allowed in even if the validity period has been extended until April 30.

Please read the official information on the website of the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing.
