Minimum credit requirement

Minimum credit requirement

Starting with the 2018/2019 academic year, scholarship holders of Stipendium Hungaricum, Scholarship for Christian Young People and Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship are required to earn an average of 18 credits (i.e., a total of 36 credits) for their last two active semesters.

If the student has not obtained the required credit number, the institution is obliged to terminate the scholarship status and inform the Tempus Public Foundation immediately.

Verification of the requirement

ELTE will verify at the end of each academic year (at the end of spring semester) the number of credits scholarship holders have earned. During the minimum credit verification, a student will lose his/her scholarship status if he/she does not obtain at least 18 credits on the average of the last two semesters where the student status was not suspended. After that, they can still continue their studies as self-financed students.

The obligation to meet the credit minimum also applies to students transferred from another institution. In their case, only the credits earned during their studies at ELTE can be accounted for, not the credits from their previous institution.

The minimum credit requirement does not apply to:

  • students, who only had a total of one active semester (or none) at the end of the academic year
  • students, who started their studies before the 2018/2019 academic year,
  • students, who are studying in Doctoral level,
  • participants of preparatory training.

The minimum credit rule for students participating in the IT preparation training applies only to the semesters after the preparation.
