Success at the International Chemistry Olympiad
The 53rd International Chemistry Olympiad was organized by Japan and took place from 24 July to 2 August, coinciding with the sports competition. Due to the pandemic, the 312 high school students from 84 countries could participate in the events of the Olympiad virtually.
The online selection and preparation of the Hungarian team was organized by the Institute of Chemistry at ELTE, with support from the Ministry of Human Resources. The most successful participants of the national academic competitions were selected. Hungarian high school students traditionally do well in the competition, this year winning 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
The silver medals went to Lucio Saracco (ELTE Apáczai Preparatory School, teachers Péter Sebő, Ágnes Sebőné Bagdi, Attila Villányi) and Dávid Benkő Mihály Fazekas High School (Fővárosi Fazekas Mihály Gimnázium), teacher Attila Albert).
