"The university is very multicultural and welcomes a high number of international students which makes it attractive to foreigners."

What stood out to you about ELTE?

ELTE ranks among the best universities in Hungary and central Europe. There is a vast variety of programs offered by the different departments within the 8 faculties. Here, I found the program that suits my aspirations and future goals the most. The university is very multicultural and welcomes a high number of international students which makes it attractive to foreigners.

What makes studying at ELTE so great?

The university is very organized: as an international student, our coordinators are always available whenever needed, our teachers are very helpful and responsive, our curriculum is immensely interesting and enriching, and our classes are well outlined and structured.

What are / were your challenges in your study program?

The program is extremely intense, and the selection process is highly competitive. Compared to master’s studies, doctoral studies are much more challenging and demanding. There are indeed plenty of courses, assignments, and tasks to accomplish within certain deadlines.

How did you overcome these challenges?

Perseverance, personal and professional motivation, and hard work are the key to success within ELTE departments. Teachers’ flexibility and willingness to help and students’ willingness to engage fruitfully in every session adds much value to our courses. Meeting the expectations is, indeed, defying and challenging, but not impossible.

How would you describe ELTE in three words?

Development, professionalism, internatinationalism

How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?

Both my master’s and PhD degree and doctoral will allow me to start a career at one of the international organizations working on education sectors. Yeats once said that ‘education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire’, and it is up to us – ‘tomorrows’ leaders’- to enlighten the future generations and build stronger communities with affordable, quality education. Applied linguistics specialization is a large field that encompasses the study of languages with psychology, sociology, individual differences, pragmatics, digitalization, assessment, and policies, etc. These programs already allowed me to dive into various experiences around the world which help me define my prospective objectives. In this branch of humanities, students learn more than what is generally expected, which broadens the horizons for future opportunities.

Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?

Located in one of the most beautiful and scenic cities in Europe, ELTE ought to be a number one choice for any newcomer. A cosmopolitan and diverse university atmosphere ensure that all its members get the best out of their university experience. The wide range of programs offered provides students with enriching and valuable academic input and incites promising output.
