Why ELTE?

ELTE is one of the top and most prestigious universities in Europe and is ranked number one in Hungary. Thousands of students enroll each year from different countries around the world. The Faculty of Humanities has excellent world-class professors and competent staff with many years of experience and knowledge in the academic field that all students can benefit from.

What do you like most about being a student at ELTE?

There are several things that I like as an ELTE student. Starting with the social life on campus, I feel very comfortable as an international foreign student at ELTE. I feel right at home here. The professors and the university staff are very helpful and are willing to help students with problems or issues they might encounter at the university. In addition, the courses that are offered are extremely interesting and informative.

What are the challenges in your study program?

When I first arrived in Budapest to study at ELTE, I needed to change my major from English Studies to American Studies. Although I had some challenges in making the change, the administrative staff of the international office and at Tempus Foundation were very helpful. They made the transition as smooth as possible.

How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?

A master’s degree from ELTE will help me get a foot in the door of many opportunities. I believe that American Studies is vital for me in my future career as I wish to work in an area that deals specifically with American issues and its relations with the world. My studies here will also help me pursue Ph.D. studies. These two years that I have spent at ELTE have helped me develop my critical thinking, which have contributed to my positive self- development and self-confidence.

Do you have any advice for future students at ELTE?

New students will face many challenges when they first arrive—ranging from administrative issues with their enrollment to their actual studies. To overcome these obstacles, students must be patient, determined and motivated. My best recommendation for new students is that they should always feel free to talk with the staff and professors. They have helped me a lot. And I recommend them to make time to get out and discover the fascinating city of Budapest.
