ELTE has maintained its position in the 601-800 category of the world ranking for six consecutive years, making it the second best higher education institution in the national ranking after Semmelweis University (251-300). Our university is ranked in the same category with institutions such as the Universities of Graz, Linz and Regensburg, Ca' Foscari in Venice and the Spanish University of Rovira i Virgili. The University of Debrecen, the University of Pécs and the University of Szeged also made it into the top 1,000, all three of them ranking in the 801-1000 category.

Oxford is in the first place in the world ranking for the sixth year, with California Institute of Technology and Harvard coming in the second and third positions, respectively, having almost equal results. The top ten places are shared by the United States (8) and the United Kingdom (2), with the best performing new entrant being the Institut Polytechnique de Paris in 95th place.

This year, universities that have also been involved in COVID-19 research have typically performed better than in previous years. Two institutions from China are now in the top 20, with Peking University and Tsinghua University tied sixteenth place. Based on the 2018 results, Universities in Saudi Arabia and Egypt are the fastest-rising higher education institutions in the world, Times Higher Education reported.
