ELTE retains its position in the ARWU rankings
On 15 August, the 2022 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was published. According to this, Eötvös Loránd University has managed to retain its last year’s position in the #601–700 band, so it is regarded as the best Hungarian higher education institution in a tie with Semmelweis University. ELTE is, therefore, ranked in the same category as Hasselt University (Belgium), Tilburg University (the Netherlands), Nottingham Trent University (United Kingdom), the University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany), Orebro University (Sweden), the University of Siena (Italy), and the University of Graz (Austria). Of the universities found in Hungary, the University of Szeged (#701–800) and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (#901–1000) have also been included in the list.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities has been topped by Harvard University for twenty years. This year, Stanford University was the second, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was ranked third. Anglo-Saxon universities have kept their leading position in the list, as eight American and two English universities belong to the top ten. In mainland Europe, the University of Paris-Saclay was ranked the best (#16), whereas, in Asia, the University of Tokyo (#24) finished in first place.
