Hungarian Language Course
The teaching of Hungarian language and culture for non-Hungarian speakers dates back to the foundation of the Department for Hungarian Language in 1792. Today the Department of Hungarian as a Foreign Language builds upon this far-reaching tradition. The Department utilizing self-developed teaching materials and employing the best professionals of the field offers Hungarian language and culture courses covering all levels from complete beginner (A1) to proficiency levels (C2) described by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). After application, students need to fill in a placement test and they are placed into their groups based on the test results. During the course, students receive regular feedback and they are evaluated continuously verbally and on paper as well. Each course ends with a written exam. In case of a successful exam, students attending the course get ECTS credits.
NEW! Hungarian language course with Turkish working language
DUYURU! Türkçe açıklamalı Macarca dil kursu
The General Hungarian language course is also available with Turkish working language. Our teachers for these classes are experienced language teachers of Turkish and Hungarian as a foreign language. ELTE BTK Yabancı Dil Olarak Macarca bölümü Türkçe açıklamalı temel Macar dili ve kültürü kurslarını başlatmaktadır. Adaylar yeni bir dil ile tanışırken hem Türkçe hem de Yabancı dil olarak Macarca alanında uzman, deneyimli öğretim kadrosu tarafından desteklenmektedir. Kurs esnasında adaylara dil bilgisi çalışma kitabı sağlamanın yanı sıra öğretim elemanları devamlı geribildirimle beraber en yeni iletişim odaklı yabancı dil öğretim teknikleriyle öğrencilere destek verir. Kursu başarıyla tamamlayan öğrenciler 3 ECTS kazanmaktadır. Başvurmak için:

Language courses
The Department offers full-semester General Hungarian language courses and Special courses on Hungarian language and culture. The 13-week courses start at the beginning of both spring and autumn semester and the curriculum is developed for one 90-minute class per week within one semester. Students get 3 ECTS credits after completing the course successfully. The aim of the General Hungarian language courses is to improve the four basic language skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing) by applying communicative methods, authentic learning materials, and multimedia tools. The Special courses on Hungarian language and culture focus on one specific text type (e.g., journalistic or argumentative texts), on developing one specific skill (reading, listening, speaking, or writing), or on the deeper understanding of Hungarian culture. The General Hungarian language course and the Special course on language and culture complement each other and thus it is possible to attend both courses in the same semester. The Department also offers Intensive Hungarian language courses for beginners to help newcomers integrate easily in Hungary. Hungarian Business Language Courses are also available at the Department. These courses are tailor-made courses for individuals, small groups, and companies. Start date, length, intensity, and focus of the course are all arranged on an individual basis.

Eötvös Loránd University also organizes a summer university on Hungarian language and culture in Budapest. Next summer university: 29 July – 23 August 2013.
English Language Course
The Language Centre of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE ITK) offers preparatory courses in English to foreign students applying to ELTE who need a working knowledge of this language for their studies. Language courses are organized individually or in groups on demand. We recommend these courses for those who would like to brush up their English before beginning their studies in Hungary or for those who would like to improve their language skills while studying at the University. You can choose from the following courses:
- Intensive courses starting 4 weeks prior to the beginning of the autumn and spring semester: 4 weeks, 80 lessons
- Standard courses during the semesters: 2x2 lessons per week, 32 lessons
- Basic academic writing course during the semesters: 2x1 lessons per week, 16 lessons
