Course description

1. Intruduction into marine biology The history of hungarian marine researches (Leidenfrost - Najade, Entz, Soós…) In generally about the oceans, geography of undersea wordl, vertical zonality

2. Ecology factors which effect on the distribution of marine animals. Water movements (currents, ebb and tide); temperature, salt concentration, light, some elements (P, N, Fe etc.)  

3. Marine habitat types. benthos, plancton, necton; sandy, rocky habitats; marine alga (kelp, Sargasso); mangrove; corall; brack water, deep water, hot water, ice

4. Observation, collecting and keeping marine animals (methods, instruments)  Collecting from shallow water, deep water; collecting by free air diving and with diving gear; aquarium; types of  aquariums

5. Methods of identification of marine species in field and in lab (algae, Cnidaria, Ctenophora, Mollusca, Arthropoda)  

6. Methods of identification of marine species in field and in lab (Chondrichtyes, Actinopterygii, Mammalia)  

7. Marine life of Arctis and Antarctis. Fishery, migration of whales

8. Marine life of  mediterrane places (Mediterranean sea, South-Africa, Australia) - I Invertebrates

9. Marine life of  mediterrane places (Mediterranean sea, South-Africa, Australia) - II Vertebrates

10. Marine life of  mediterrane places (Mediterranean sea, South-Africa, Australia) - III Special circumtances (Black-sea, seal islands, bird island)

Comparison the diversity of animals of  shallow and deeper water.  Visiting the Marine Biology Institute in Rovinj and visitng the Aquariums in Rovinj and Pula.
