Course description

Aim of the course:

The course is designed to provide an overview of the basic principles, theories, issues and practices in the field of psychological testing. Tests of both cognitive and personality functioning will be included, with emphasis on identification of both problems and strengths.

Includes group and individual appraisal techniques to be used to support career, educational, and personal planning and development. Standardized and nonstandardized data information gathering methods, validity, reliability, psychometric statistics, factors influencing appraisals, and use and interpretation of appraisal results.

  • an understanding of the role of assessment in the overall counseling process
  • an ability to identify assessment processes and procedures for specific situations and populations
  • knowledge of basic statistical and measurement concept
  • familiarity with a variety of cognitive, career and personality measures

  • ethically interpreting assessment information to clients, colleagues, parents, administrators, and other appropriate individuals and groups
  • an understanding of professional and ethical issues in assessment

  • how to communicate adequately

  • how to establish a climate of trust
  • ability to properly select, administer and interpret assessment tools in counseling;

This course is designed to provide a foundation for using assessment procedures in counseling.
