    Short description

The aim of the Geography MSc programme is to provide advanced training in Geography. The Environmental Geography specialisation prepares students for research and analysis tasks related to environment and nature protection, environmental change and climate issues. The Geoinformatics specialisation provides a greater depth in the use of geospatial and remote sensing tools, and introduces students to the modelling of both natural and social processes. The Geography MSc programme prepares students to be able to solve problems, pursue research in these fields, communicate these results to other experts, and continue their studies at the PhD level.

The program is recommended to applicants who have at least a BSc degree in Geography or related fields, e.g. Earth sciences and Environmental sciences. It enables students to obtain knowledge and problem-solving abilities in environmental, natural, technical and social areas.

    Specializations: Environmental Geography, Geoinformatics

    Strength of program

The program offers a great variety of courses on GIS, environmental studies, quaternary science, renewable energy, sustainability, landscape analysis and geomorphology. It is based on a holistic geographical approach and complex analysis of human-nature interactions and synergies. Based on this theoretical foundation, the program contains high-level application-oriented courses on state-of-the-art issues in domains like land use, water resources, renewable energy production, sustainable development and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Most teachers in the program have international teaching experience, regularly give classes at foreign universities, and have an excellent research record. With more than a dozen full and associate professors involved in the program, we can guarantee the integration of leading-edge scientific knowledge into the curriculum. Our program is a great starting point for employment in the labour market or starting a scientific career

    Career opportunities

Trained geographers are employed in several professional and academic domains. These typically include environmental planning, design and restoration, environmental assessment and monitoring, resource management, nature conservation and environmental education. Many geographers will continue their career in governmental bodies and NGOs related to water and energy management, environmental engineering, spatial and urban development and remote sensing. Private enterprises, including multinational ones, in regional and urban development, sustainability solutions, environmental impact assessment, land and landscape management, and consultancy, are also prime employers of geographers. Those interested in conducting research will be able to apply for PhD studies. The main labour market outcomes are related to environment and nature protection, environmental change and climate issues for the Environmental Geography specialisation, and GIS analysis for the Geoinformatics specialisation.
