The Faculty of Science of Eötvös Loránd University will hold its traditional ceremonial event, Eötvös Day, on Thursday, 7 May 2026. For decades, this occasion has been one of the most important events in the life of the Faculty, dedicated to recognising excellence among its academic staff and students.
The Tradition of Eötvös Day
Eötvös Day is the celebration of excellence at the Faculty of Science. Its history dates back to 1993, when Dr Ádám Kiss, then Dean of the Faculty, established the Faculty Day and designated the second Thursday of May each year as Eötvös Day. Since then, the event has remained one of the most significant festive occasions of the Faculty community.
The aim of Eötvös Day is to honour outstanding achievements in research, teaching, and student performance, while also strengthening the sense of community within the Faculty. On this day, faculty awards and student distinctions are presented in a ceremonial setting, accompanied by a scientific lecture and short professional presentations, known as elevator pitches. The event traditionally concludes with an informal reception and standing buffet.
