My name is Aigerim, and I am from Kyrgyzstan. I am the oldest child in my family, and I have three younger brothers. I practised taekwondo and dancing for many years, and they taught me to be disciplined. In my free time, I like watching romantic comedies and going hiking. I love hiking because Kyrgyzstan is famous for its beautiful mountains. Reaching the top after a long hike is an amazing feeling, and it always makes me feel proud and happy.

"I recommend spending time with positive people and joining different university activities, where you can meet new friends and people with similar interests."

WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?

What stood out to me most about ELTE was how big the university is and that it has many different campuses. I was also impressed by how beautiful our campuses and libraries are. I really like that there are many events for students, so everyone can find something interesting based on their hobbies and interests. At the BTK campus, we sometimes have concerts at the end of the semester, and it creates a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?

What makes studying at ELTE so great is the support that students receive. I really appreciate our coordinators because they are always ready to answer our questions and help us with study problems. As an international student, it can be difficult to adapt because the education system can be different from the one in your home country. Thanks to their help, it is much easier to feel comfortable and adjust.

WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?

One of the biggest challenges in my study program was adapting to a new education system. As an international student, I needed time to get used to new teaching methods and study requirements. Another challenge was using academic English, especially when reading many texts and writing assignments.

HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?

I overcame these challenges by not being afraid to ask questions. I always asked about assignments, study requirements, and anything that was unclear to me. I also received great support from my coordinators, professors, and classmates. My classmates were open and always ready to study together and help each other.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?

Diversity, Connection, Opportunity.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?

I think my degree will help me build a strong foundation for my future career. Studying English and American Studies allows me to develop my knowledge of languages, literature, and cultures. These skills will help me communicate with people from different backgrounds and understand different perspectives. In the future, I would like to work in an international organisation where I can use my knowledge to help people and make a positive contribution.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?

My recommendation for future students at ELTE is to find a good balance between studying and personal life. It is important to take care of yourself because studying and exams can be stressful. I recommend spending time with positive people and joining different university activities, where you can meet new friends and people with similar interests.
