"ELTE gives me many opportunities to utilize my skills by being an active student and doing volunteer work which becomes my source of ‘giving is living’."

WHY ELTE?

ELTE is in the heart of Budapest, with its high rank among other universities. Resources and information are always available to help students progress. Being a master's student at ELTE allows me to contribute more in the field of my interest (English Studies). The professors are always willing to give knowledge and advice to their students. Furthermore, the presence of students from all around the world, with different cultural backgrounds and experiences, inspires me to meet them and learn there.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING A STUDENT AT ELTE?

Diversity is ‘about embracing one another’s uniqueness’, in addition, it opens doors and gives chances. ELTE gives me many opportunities to utilize my skills by being an active student and doing volunteer work which becomes my source of ‘giving is living’. Also, many aspects could be accounted for academic progress, such as scientific research, and collaborative professors. I love how much I could learn from interacting and communicating assertively with other students and applying what I learned in discussions and academic knowledge.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?

Well, easy come, easy go! You have to work hard not just to get the knowledge for exam periods. A Master's Degree in the field of Applied Linguistics means that you have to learn how to conduct reliable and valid research. In other words, you have to be patient with collecting data and finding your participants. However, you will fall in love with every challenge because you will rise up stronger and become a persistent learner. I always say that nothing is impossible to a willing heart, thus, keep pursuing your goals.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?

For me, the master's degree entails more knowledge in the field and critical thinking skills. Besides, other skills, such as conducting research, working with groups, and explaining myself and ideas. It is all about learning how to be patient and self-disciplined, which could improve how I deal with struggles through my life journey and future career. Also, English is the language of the world; therefore, it will be beneficial in every respect.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?

As an international student ambassador, I have gone through many challenges, but I have overcome them without hard effort (here is some advice about how and why):

Well, first you have to be aware that you are in a new place which means a new culture and different attitude towards certain situations. Hence, don’t panic if you are different, on the contrary, embrace it by respecting the host country's culture.

ELTE has a lot of facilities that you could benefit from, go around and explore them.

If you need help with something you can’t understand, ask those in charge. They will explain procedures and give you a hand.

Surround yourself with diversity, you have many opportunities to experience a lot.

Set a goal and always work hard to be a better version of yourself, and last but not least positivity is contagious, so be positive and be your authentic self (:
