Hello! I'm Maria from Ukraine, who has lived in Türkiye for a significant amount of time. Due to being an intercultural kid, I always thought outside of the box, and the first adjective that comes to my mind about myself is broad-minded. I am particularly passionate about foreign language learning, aviation, teaching, international environments, sports, travelling, and exploring new things.

WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?
I really value ELTE's diverse community from all over the globe, amazing location in the vibrant city of Budapest, beautiful study spots, and active academic and extracurricular life.
WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?
The welcoming and supportive environment, different communities, mentors, groups, etc., around you that are eager to help and answer any questions that may arise.
WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?
I would say a large amount of literature is required to be read in one semester on our own. Other than that, most importantly, financial matters: trying to handle full-time studies with job-finding as well as actually working, and family financial support. And, of course, being away from loved ones.
HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
Honestly, I tried to read shortened versions of the books and research the main points and understanding. As for the financial part, I continue looking for solutions, working, and trying to maintain a balanced schedule.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?
Supportive, Vintage, Forward-thinking.
HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?
My degree will certainly provide me with a strong foundation in various disciplines such as linguistics, literature, culture, history, etc. And it will help me choose a narrower field to pursue later on, as I'm interested in many things. It will solidify my previous knowledge and help me start making use of it.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?
I definitely do. First and foremost, always reach out and do not hesitate to ask questions. There are people everywhere who are willing to help, and remember they are people, just like you. There is no need to step back when you need assistance. Also, you can ask second- or third-year students for some advice, their opinion or experience about a certain subject. Socialise always, and make sure to build connections, join extracurricular activities, and do things beyond academics, as this is a crucial part of university life.
