Hi! I'm Sana, originally from Pakistan and currently living in Budapest. Growing up in Pakistan gave me a deep appreciation for hospitality, cultural diversity, and strong family values. Moving to Hungary has been an exciting journey that has allowed me to experience a new culture while sharing my own with others. I enjoy exploring new cities, trying different cuisines, taking photos, and spending time in nature. I also love meeting people from different backgrounds, learning about their traditions, and making meaningful connections. I love saying "yes" to new experiences, whether it's volunteering, joining Erasmus+ and HOOK events, or meeting people from all over the world and learning from their stories.
"Be patient with yourself, stay open to learning, and enjoy the journey. The experiences and connections you make at ELTE can become some of the most valuable parts of your university life."
WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?
What really stands out about ELTE to me is its strong academic reputation and long history. As one of the oldest and most respected universities in Hungary, it has a tradition of academic excellence and research.
WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?
Studying at ELTE is great because it combines excellent education with a supportive and welcoming environment. The professors are knowledgeable and encouraging, the academic standards are high, and the international student community makes the university a vibrant place to learn. It’s a place where you can challenge yourself academically while building friendships and gaining perspectives from people all over the world.
WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?
One of the biggest challenges in my MSc Geoinformatics programme has been balancing the theoretical concepts with the technical and practical work. Many courses require learning specialised software, programming, and spatial data analysis, which can be demanding, especially when working on complex projects. At times, managing multiple assignments and project deadlines was also challenging. However, these experiences taught me to be more organised, patient, and willing to learn independently. Looking back, overcoming these challenges has helped me become more confident in my skills and better prepared for future opportunities.
HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
I overcame these challenges by staying consistent and asking for help whenever I needed it. I spent extra time practising with GIS software and programming tools, watching tutorials, reading documentation, and learning through trial and error. I also worked closely with classmates on group projects, which allowed us to exchange ideas and solve problems together. Whenever I faced difficulties, I wasn't afraid to ask my professors for guidance. Over time, I became more confident in tackling complex tasks, and I realised that persistence and continuous learning are just as important as prior knowledge.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?
Inclusive, Inspiring, International.
HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?
I believe my degree will give me the knowledge and practical skills to build a meaningful career in geoinformatics, remote sensing, and spatial data analysis. As technology continues to play a bigger role in solving environmental and urban challenges, I want to use GIS and geospatial technologies to contribute to sustainable development and informed decision-making. Beyond technical skills, this degree has also taught me how to think critically, solve complex problems, and work with people from different backgrounds. These are qualities that will help me not only in my career but also in my personal growth and future opportunities around the world.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?
My biggest recommendation is to stay curious and make the most of every opportunity. Don't be afraid to ask questions, step out of your comfort zone, and connect with people from different cultures. University is about much more than attending classes; it's also about building friendships, learning from new experiences, and discovering your own strengths. There may be challenges along the way, especially if you're studying abroad, but don't let them discourage you. Be patient with yourself, stay open to learning, and enjoy the journey. The experiences and connections you make at ELTE can become some of the most valuable parts of your university life.
