Hi! I'm Sheki from Costa Rica, and I'm a Computer Science student at ELTE. I love travelling, hiking, and discovering new places; one of my favourite parts of studying abroad has been exploring Europe and experiencing different cultures. When I'm not studying, you'll probably find me playing the piano, taking photos, or trying a new café in Budapest.

WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?
When I first discovered ELTE, what caught my attention was its reputation. I knew it was one of the most respected universities in Hungary, but what really convinced me was seeing that it wasn't just proud of its history; it also embraces the future. As someone passionate about Computer Science, I was excited to find opportunities related to Artificial Intelligence and innovation, and I felt that ELTE was exactly the kind of place where I wanted to learn.
WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?
One of the things I value most about ELTE is the environment it creates. The university brings together people from all over the world, creating an environment where every day is an opportunity to learn something new, not only through classes, but also through conversations, friendships, and shared experiences. That combination has made my time at ELTE much more than earning a degree; it has helped me grow as a person.
WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?
My main challenges have been getting used to the academic workload, keeping up with deadlines, understanding the structure of my study program, and learning how to navigate new university platforms. Adjusting to a new country and a different environment has also been part of the experience.
HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
By staying resilient and finding ways to organise myself better. Students helped me understand the university system, while creating my own calendar helped me manage deadlines and responsibilities. I also relied on my classmates, as we supported and helped each other throughout the semester.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?
My degree will help me transform my passion for technology into meaningful solutions. Through Computer Science, I want to gain the knowledge and skills needed to create innovations that can improve people’s lives and contribute to solving real-world challenges. It will also help me grow as a person, strengthen my problem-solving abilities, and prepare me for a career where I can continue learning and creating.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?
Trust yourself, develop a study method that works for you, and adapt it depending on what each situation requires. Study consistently every week, avoid letting tasks accumulate, and remember that every experience is an opportunity to learn. Also, take the time to explore and enjoy everything that ELTE and Budapest have to offer.
