"The first thing that took me by surprise is the respect with which all teachers treat the students. They look at us as their equals and this makes the process of learning far more interactive and interesting."

Why ELTE?

Being the most popular university in Hungary, ELTE was my first and only choice. The reasons for that are simple: first, it is situated in one of the most beautiful cities in the world - Budapest (which allows you to get acquainted with the Hungarian culture, meet a lot of new friends, travel around the world); second, the staff of the university are highly respected professionals (if you are a student at ELTE, you can be sure that by the time you graduate, you will be a professional in your field of studies); third, ELTE gives you all kinds of opportunities (different courses, guest lectures, projects you can take part in, sport clubs, organized cheap trips to other countries - all this will definitely broaden your horizons and make you a person with a wide range of knowledge).

What do you like most about being a student at ELTE?

The first thing that took me by surprise is the respect with which all teachers treat the students. They look at us as their equals and this makes the process of learning far more interactive and interesting.

What are your challenges in your study program?

I am sure that all programs are difficult and require a lot of studying. English and American Studies is not an exception. You need to be ready to absorb the knowledge from different fields: the language (with an in-depth analysis of the differences between the British English and the American English), the history and culture of the English-speaking countries, and of course the literature. At first you might feel intimidated by the variety of courses and requirements, but then you start to realize that the result is worth it. If you want to acquire all the knowledge that ELTE offers you, you need to work hard. As the saying goes, no pain no gain.

How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?

My bachelor’s degree in English and American Studies with the Specialization in American Studies is a good start for my professional career. The theoretical and practical knowledge that this program is giving me is a necessity for a well-educated person. Also, the experience you are getting though your studies is going to be very helpful in the future.

Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?

I have some recommendations based on my experience:

1. always ask for help if you need it (do not be afraid of asking for help)
2. if you have any doubts regarding your assignment, ask your teacher for clarifications
3. be responsible and meet the deadlines
4. enjoy the best time of your life!
