My name is Syed Muhammad Adnan Aslam, and I come from Pakistan. I’m living in Budapest and studying International Relations at ELTE. I really enjoy meeting new people from different countries, learning about their cultures, and sharing my own. I love traveling, taking photos of the places I visit, and trying different foods. I also enjoy cooking traditional pakistani dishes for my friends here, which is always a fun way to connect.
WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?
What stood out to me most about ELTE was how welcoming and diverse it felt from the very beginning. I was impressed by its long history and strong academic reputation, but also by how alive and modern the campus community is. I loved the idea of being in classrooms where people from all over the world share their perspectives and experiences. ELTE feels like the perfect mix of tradition, quality education, and an international environment where I can grow both personally and professionally.
WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?
ELTE is more than just a place to study. It’s a community where you can grow both inside and outside the classroom. The professors are knowledgeable and supportive, and there are many activities you can join, such as student societies, cultural programs, and conferences. I have been able to join events, help other students as a mentor, and even represent ELTE at international programs. Every day here feels like an opportunity to learn something new and meet someone interesting.
WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?
At first, the biggest challenge for me was adapting to the new curriculum. It was different from what I had studied before, and the teaching and learning methods took some time to get used to. I had to learn how to manage my time better and improve my writing skills to meet the academic requirements. Over time, I became more comfortable with the expectations and started to enjoy the process of researching and presenting ideas. The curriculum helped me develop important skills like critical thinking, analysis, and effective communication, which are essential for a career in international relations.
HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
I told myself to see the challenge as a chance to grow. I asked my professors for advice, discussed topics with classmates, and put extra time into my studies. Slowly, I became more confident with the new system. In the end, the challenge made me better than before; it improved my skills, discipline, and ability to adapt.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?
My degree in International Relations is giving me knowledge about the world and the skills to work in many different fields. I’m learning how to think critically, communicate clearly, and work with people from different backgrounds. These are important skills for careers in diplomacy, international organizations, and global projects. I believe my ELTE experience will open many doors in the future.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?
Say yes to as many opportunities as you can. Join clubs, go to events, and talk to people from different backgrounds; you’ll learn as much outside the classroom as you do inside it. Don’t be afraid to try something new, even if it feels a bit challenging at first. Budapest is a city full of life, and ELTE is a place full of possibilities, make the most of both, and you’ll create memories and friendships that will stay with you forever.
