Hi, I'm Nehir, an international student from Turkey. I enjoy travelling and discovering new places, whether it's exploring a new city or finding a cosy cafe. I'm also a big cat lover and have a cat of my own. In my free time, I like reading, watching movies, and spending time with my family and friends. I've always enjoyed getting to know new people and learning about their cultures and perspectives!
"I believe that every student can find their own place in ELTE.
WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?
What stood out to me the most about ELTE was its welcoming atmosphere. With such a diverse international community, it was easy to connect with people from different backgrounds. I also appreciated how approachable and supportive both the professors and university staff were. The friendly environment made it much easier to start conversations, build friendships, and quickly feel like part of the ELTE community.
WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?
For me, one of the highlights of ELTE is the academic life it offers. I've had the opportunity to attend courses taught by professors who are highly knowledgeable and well-respected in their fields. I also appreciate the structured flexibility ELTE offers. Within the curriculum, students have the opportunity to plan parts of their studies and, for many seminars, choose between different lecturers.
WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?
I believe the challenges I've encountered at ELTE are similar to those many university students experience during their studies. The biggest challenge for me has been the workload, especially towards the end of each semester when exams and deadlines begin to overlap. As an English and American Studies student, I would say that the amount of reading required can be quite demanding at times, but it has also helped me develop stronger reading and time management skills.
HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
I relied on careful planning and regular reading to overcome these. I have found that it is important to keep up with my study schedule and avoid procrastination to prevent tasks from piling up. It hasn't always been easy to balance my academic and personal life, but I've learned that finding that balance is one of the most valuable skills a student can develop, and university is one of the best places to work on it.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?
Supportive, Advantageous, Welcoming.
HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?
Looking back at my first day at university, I can see how much my language and communication skills have improved. Although it's not as obvious, I also think I've developed stronger critical thinking and intercultural communication skills, which I believe will be valuable in my future career.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?
My recommendation would be to try to be more open towards other people and find people you feel comfortable around, as university life should be much more than just the academic aspect. I believe that every student can find their own place in ELTE.
