Ochanomizu University is excited to announce that our Summer Program 2026 will be held from July 21 to August 5, 2026, at Ochanomizu University.

The program offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in courses addressing societal and scientific issues related to Japan, interact with Japanese peers, and explore various aspects of Japanese culture. You are invited to nominate up to 10 students to participate.

The nomination deadline is February 16, 2026. (Monday) Please contact Ms Ildikó Chmara at  ildiko.chmara@rk.elte.hu in connection with nomination. Read more about application on this link.

Program Structure

  • The Summer Program includes the Subject-Based Course and the Japanese Language Course.
  • The Subject-Based Course consists of Lectures, Project Work, and a Japanese culture component offered across the Subject-Based Course.
  • The Project Work component will consist of both an online and in-person component.

The online component will begin on July 6, 2026, followed by the in-person component starting on July 22, 2026.

  • The Japanese language course will include online conversation practice with our university’s student buddies starting around July 6, 2026.
  • The Opening Ceremony and Course Orientation are scheduled for the afternoon of July 21. Participants are advised to arrive in Japan by July 20 to be well prepared.

All participants will be assigned as student buddies from our university. We look forward to welcoming students who will enjoy the buddy activities.

JASSO Scholarship

  • The number of available JASSO scholarship slots for the Summer Program 2026 is expected to be significantly reduced compared to the 2025 program.
  • Due to this reduction, please note that not all scholarship applicants can be selected.
  • If a properly completed JASSO Grade Calculation Sheet is not submitted, the applicant cannot be included in the scholarship screening list.
  • Incomplete or incorrectly completed documents will result in exclusion from scholarship consideration.
  • Only students applying for the JASSO scholarship are eligible for the Subject-Based Course.
  • Students applying for the Japanese Language Course are NOT eligible for the scholarship.

Accommodation Arrangements

Starting in 2025, students will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation in Japan. Unfortunately, our university dormitories will not be available for short-term program participants. However, we can assist with finding accommodation if needed, but students need to make their own reservations. We appreciate your understanding.
