My name is Khalil Hamed, and I’m from Lebanon. I only started living in Budapest lately, and I find it to be the perfect city to feed into my interests in writing, reading, and keeping me creative. I’m always intrigued by visiting and discovering new places and sights that can enhance my creativity. I particularly love the social life that I am able to participate in here, through meeting new people and attending gatherings and events.

"Studying at ELTE is great because it combines a strong theoretical foundation with real research exposure. ELTE has a long scientific history, but it’s also very open to international students and modern research topics."

What stood out to you about ELTE?

I was drawn by the opportunities that ELTE offers for its students, and upon arrival, I pleasantly realized that ELTE is not only valuable for the academic and career aspects, but also for building an International community as well.

What makes studying at ELTE so great?

Studying at ELTE is great because it combines a strong theoretical foundation with real research exposure. As a materials science MSc student, I have access to well-equipped labs, and learn in a very academic but supportive environment. ELTE has a long scientific history, but it’s also very open to international students and modern research topics.

What are/were your challenges in your study program?

There is quite a big change in the amount of time required from bachelor's to master's studies. I found myself dealing with more presentations, essays, and research papers. The subjects can also be demanding and require a deep understanding of concepts.

How did you overcome these challenges?

I adapted by changing the way I manage my time and study. I dedicated more it in reading research papers and looking up presentations so that I can create mine in a professional and intellectual way. Regarding the subjects, I focused more on understanding the meaning and fundamentals of the concept rather than memorization, and regularly discussed problems with professors. Over time, this approach helped me handle complex topics more confidently.

How would you describe ELTE in three words?

Rewarding, Modern, Respected.

How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?

Beyond the fundamental technical knowledge that ELTE provides, this degree has and will keep on strengthening my problem-solving skills, independence, and ability to work with complex data. These transferable skills will help me adapt to different roles and challenges over the course of my career.

Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?

I would recommend being proactive from the beginning. ELTE offers many opportunities in research and lab work, and organizes many events and communities. But you need to take the initiative by asking questions, communicating with professors, and managing your time well.
